Hamilton Center - Royal LePage State Realty Brokerage

This part of Hamilton lies between Hamilton Harbour, the Escarpment (Mountain), James St. on the west and Kenilworth Ave. on the east. It includes several traditional working-class neighbourhoods as the North End, Beasley and Corktown, and a number of other neighbourhoods on both sides of Barton and Main Street.

Hamilton's North End has a rich history as a rough working-class neighbourhood popular with Irish, Scottish and Eastern Europeans immigrants who worked in the nearby factories and docks.

At the intersection known as ‘the Delta', where east-west Main Street and King Street intersect, lies Gage Park, one of the largest green spaces in downtown Hamilton. It is home to a bandshell, greenhouses, the Hamilton Children's Museum and several festivals throughout the summer. The communities of Blakely, Stipeley, Crown Point, and The Delta surround Gage Park.

There are several well-known shopping areas in the downtown core. James Street is known for its galleries, restaurants, and eclectic collection of small locally run shops. It is also home to monthly Art Crawls, and the annual Supercrawl festival that draws a wide range of local and international musicians. The Ottawa Street shopping district is well known for its textile and antique shops that have been around for decades. More recently it has grown to include its own collection of unique restaurants, as well as other specialty shops. Nearby at Ottawa and Barton, is the large Barton Street Shopping Mall, that consists of many big box stores and larger chains. Barton Street is also home to the vibrant Barton Village Business Improvement Area (BIA) and retail district.

This area has extensive recreational opportunities, ranging from parklands along the Niagara Escarpment, the Escarpment Rail Trail, Gage Park, and the waterfront at Bayfront Park and Pier 4 Park which are home to several marinas and yacht clubs. For those preferring their team sports, there is Tim Hortons Field, which is home to the Hamilton Tiger Cats (CFL Football), FC Forge Soccer Club, and hosted the Pan Am 2015 soccer games.
